Tim's New Syrah
has Arrived!

Back on August 4, 2007 I selected this year’s edition of “Tim’s Syrah” which is the 2006 “Clone 174” from Firestone Vineyard’s Lower Bench Vineyard.

The Lower Bench Vineyard, as the name suggests, is a low lying stretch just below the winery.  It gets complete sun exposure, less wind and high heat which develops a more Cabernet-like Syrah with great balance, black cherry and plum fruit, very subtle smoke and a hint of brown spice (possible cinnamon).  Barrel aging has added cocoa and sweet vanilla to the wines finish while more bottle age and patience will contribute to the wines body. 

The 2006 clone 174 is remarkably different then the 2004 clone 887 which was a more typical California style Syrah with a light cherry/raspberry fruit front and more smoke and spice in the finish.
