Halloween Cocktails to Spice up Your Party

Halloween-CocktailsWhat is a Halloween party without great cocktails?

Boring, if you ask us. Halloween cocktails are some of the most fun holiday-themed cocktails to make because they allow one to get really creative with the look of the drink. Grenadine is a popular ingredient in many of the following drinks, as it is heavier than alcohol and therefore creates cool effects.

1. Bloody Maria

The most classic Halloween drink might just be the Bloody Mary, which is creepy just in the name alone. However, we found this recipe from Real Simple for the Bloody Maria, which is even more exciting because it’s made with tequila.

Real Simple - Bloody MariaBloody Maria

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup tomato juice
  • 3 tablespoons tequila
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice, plus 1 lime wedge
  • 1 teaspoon chipotle hot sauce or regular hot sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • pinch celery salt (optional)
  • 1 pimento-stuffed olive
  • 1 cornichon

Directions

  1. In a liquid measuring cup or medium bowl, combine the tomato juice, tequila, lime juice, hot sauce, Worcestershire, and celery salt if using; stir well.
  2. Serve over ice. Thread the lime wedge, olives, and cornichon through a toothpick and use as garnish.

2. Ghost in the Graveyard

This creepy float from Martha Stewart utilizes black vodka (but you can use food coloring if you don’t have any) to make a drink that looks like something that would be concocted in a cauldron.

(Serves 1)

Ingredients
2 ounces black vodka
2 ounces creme de cacao or coffee-flavored liqueur
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
Pinch of finely grated nutmeg, for garnish

Directions
In a glass, combine vodka and creme de cacao, and set aside. Place a scoop of ice cream in a highball glass, and slowly pour vodka mixture over ice cream. Garnish with nutmeg; serve immediately.

3. Pina Ghoulada

The “Pina Ghoulada” also by Martha Stewart is a bloody take on the typically tropical drink. Or, if you’re not a fan of piña coladas, you can use the same technique to create the bloody rim and put your favorite cocktail inside. Don’t forget to add a drop of green food coloring to make it look extra creepy!

Ingredients

For the “BLOOD”

3 tablespoons corn syrup

1/4 teaspoons red food coloring

For the DRINK

20 ounces pineapple juice

1 can (15 ounces) cream of coconut

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 cup orange juice

10 ounces good-quality rum

Directions

STEP 1

Pour the corn syrup in a shallow bowl. Dip a toothpick into the food coloring, and stir a very small amount into the syrup to combine. Hold a glass by the stem, dip rim into the syrup mixture, and turn glass, coating entire rim. Turn the glass upright, allowing mixture to drip down sides. Dip the remaining glasses. Set aside.

STEP 2

Whisk together drink ingredients. Place 2 1/2 cups ice in a blender, and add 1 cup drink mixture. Blend until smooth; add more pineapple juice if mixture is too thick. Repeat with remaining ice and mixture. Carefully pour into prepared glasses; serve.

5. Vampire Cocktail

The Vampire Cocktail from HGTV ends with a drizzle of grenadine, that will drip down the insides of the glass and create a dripping blood look, perfect to freak out any of your guests!

Don’t have time to grab the ingredients for these Halloween cocktails? Sometimes all you need is an interesting way of serving a regular drink to make it spooky-themed. Make a red drink and serve it in test tubes for a bloody good cocktail. Or, if you’re feeling really adventurous, invest in some dry ice for a steaming drink. These can be served in a big plastic cauldron for extra effect. Embellishing a martini with Halloween candy is another great way to spice up an otherwise non-festive drink. And of course, making a giant hand-shaped ice cube by using a rubber glove as a mold will make for extra spooky punch.
