Your Favorite Holiday Desserts Turned Into Shots

Holiday-DessertsThe holiday season is a time when most people throw out their diets and indulge on an abundance of sweet treats and high-caloric drinks.

Since you will already be on a roll enjoying all of these sugary indulgences, why not make it even more fun by adding alcohol? And no, these aren’t your grandmother’s spiked cider recipes. They are actually your favorite holiday treats turned into shots. Plus, they all pair perfectly with a spiral ham.

Apple Pie Shots

Apple Pie ShotsWhat better way to ingest your favorite holiday pie than downing it with vodka? Apple pie shots are quite simple to make.

First fill a shot glass half with vodka and half with apple juice. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Want it to taste even more like apple pie? Heat the apple juice and use room temperature vodka.

Fruitcake Jelly Shots

While fruitcakes are seen as the Nickelback of Christmas, they are a lot better when they involve alcohol. The following recipe from Jelly Shot Test Kitchen explains how to turn cake flavored vodka into these tasty treats.

  • Fruitcake Jelly Shots1 cup pineapple juice
  • 2 envelopes Knox gelatin (or increase to 2 1/2 envelopes if using molds)
  • 1 cup UV Cake flavored vodka
  • 1 tbsp molassess
  • 1 tsp rum extract (or to taste)
  • chopped fruit and nuts for garnish, as desired (I used about half a cup total – you don’t need much on each.  I buy pre-chopped cuz I am busy.  And lazy.)

Pour pineapple juice into saucepan, sprinkle with the gelatin.  Let soak for a minute or two.  Heat over low heat, stirring constantly, until gelatin is dissolved (about 5 minutes).  Remove from heat.  Stir in vodka, molasses and extract.

Pour into pan or molds.  Chill until set (at least 4 hours, preferably overnight).

Chocolate Candy Cane Shot

Chocolate Candy Cane ShotsNot only are these delicious, but the presentation is extra festive!

Mix equal parts peppermint schnapps, chocolate liqueur, and hazelnut liqueur (like Frangelico) in a shaker with ice and pour into shot glasses.

You can top these off with a crushed candy cane rim or place a mini candy cane over the edge of the glass.

Pumpkin Pie Shots

When you’re stuffed from a huge meal literally made from something called stuffing, there is nothing less that you may want than to add sugary treats to your overflowing stomach. But we all do it, so why not make it go down a little bit smoother with some vanilla vodka? Because of Madeline has a pretty simple recipe for these pumpkin pie shots.

Pumpkin Pie Shots2 jiggers Bailey’s Irish Cream

2 jiggers Vanilla Vodka

1/3 cup pumpkin puree

1/8 tsp ground cinnamon

1/8 tsp ground nutmeg

pinch ground cloves

1/4 cup crushed ginger snap cookies (gluten free from Trader Joe’s)

1/4 cup coconut milk

To start, prep your shot glasses by dipping the rim in coconut milk and then crushed ginger snaps.  Set aside.

In a small bowl, mix together the pumpkin puree, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.  Set aside.  In a cocktail shaker filled with 3/4 of ice, pour in the Bailey’s, Vodka and spoon on top the pumpkin puree mixture.  Close and shake for about 30 seconds or until all is evenly incorporated and lump free.  Pour the mixture into the shot glasses and bottoms up!
