Perusini’s history in the hills of Gramogliano goes back centuries and not only were they instrumental in the preservation of native varietals like Picolit, but they were also named one of the 50 best winemaking estates in all of Italy by famed food & wine writer Luigi Veronelli. With this sort of pedigree it’s not a surprise to find that their Pinot Grigio stands head and shoulders above the crowd when it comes to Pinot Grigio. Grown in the mineral-rich hillsides of the biodistrict, the fruit here always displays an elevated level of concentration and backbone. Instead of the standard “light, tart, and dry” that so many Pinot Grigios offer, this is instead a serious wine of substance that shows off the marvelous terroir. Full-flavored with pronounced aromatics of orchard fruits and a richness on the palate that is simultaneously fruity, mineral-driven, and dry, with a crisp finish. It’s no overstatement to say that this is one of the best Pinot Grigios we’ve had in a long time and it’s since become something of a shop favorite. If you haven’t tried this yet, it’s time you discover just how good Pinot Grigio can be.
